Running TrafMeter as a Windows NT/2000/XP service

TrafMeter is designed to be run as a normal application, started via the Windows Start menu. However, you can start TrafMeter as the service using FireDaemon. FireDaemon is an utility that allows to install and run many applications as the Windows NT/2000/XP Service.
 
Software requirements for FireDaemon v 1.5:
- Windows NT SP3+
- Windows 2000 SP1+
- Windows XP

Steps to run TrafMeter as the service are:

  1. Download FireDaemon from www.firedaemon.com. There are two versions of FireDaemon: the Lite and Pro versions. The FireDaemon Lite is free to run 1 service. The FireDaemon Pro has no restrictions on maximum installable services however it costs from $25.
  2. Run FireDaemon Service Manager
  3. Press Ctrl+N to invoke New Service Definition
  4. In the New Service Definition dialog box, select Program tab and fill the fields as follows:
  5. Select Settings tab and enable Interact with Desktop option
  6. Click Install button

TrafMeter 3.20 or higher doesn't work as the service under Windows NT 4.0.
